Greenland Telescope

Welcome

This is the online  focal point for astronomers in Denmark interested in joining the Greenland Telescope (GLT) — a project led by  ASIAA and SAO. The Danish effort to join the GLT is lead by the Danish National Space Institute at Denmarks Technical University, the  Niels Bohr Institute at Copenhagen University, the University of Southern Denmark, and Aarhus University.

The GLT is a 12 meter radio antenna currently located at Thule Airforce Base in Greenland. Eventually, the telescope will be operated from the peak of the ice sheet  in central Greenland.

As part of the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) – a world-wide network of telescopes – the GLT will study the central supermassive black holes in nearby galaxies. When not observing as part of the EHT network, the GLT will study distant galaxies and star formation in our own Galaxy.
